Facebook has signed a 50 million dollar deal with FriendFeed.It looks as if someone is gearing up to give Twitter a run for their money with this deal.Look for twitter to be bought out soon as well in my opinion they just cannot keep moving forward without some sort of major funding.

It looks like we will be able to pick up those facebook vanity url's starting at 12:01 a.m EDT saturday June 13
according to a blog post at the facebook blog.
Remember these are on a first come first served basis so be prepared to log on early to get the name of your choice..
We are getting information that sometime later this week Facebook will be allowing all of it's members to pick up a brand new vanity url instead of the one that just contains your user number. Trademark infringements will be prohibited as well as alot of blacklisted names.Facebook employees get first pick,and we will have to wait to see if this will be a free service.

Xoopit has announced a new gmail plugin that will let you set your facebook status messages from your gmail inbox.You can also view the profile photos and status messages of your Facebook friends while reading their email.
To integrate Facebook into Gmail, Xoopit's new plugin uses a Facebook Connect button that logs you into your Facebook account. Once activated, you can set your Facebook status at any time by clicking the "F" icon at the upper right corner of your Gmail where there's now a Facebook status update box that displays your profile picture and your current status.

Facebook Connect, is officially open for business for non-Facebook sites.
Developers who have created applications for Facebook's platform can now bring them over to social network Friendster. This means that Friendster supports both Facebook's code and OpenSocial, the standard created by Google for social-network widgets.
"Friendster's support of both the Facebook and OpenSocial platforms is a big win for business and individual developers, as well as for Friendster users," David Jones, vice president of global marketing for Friendster, said in a release. "For the developers that have invested resources in developing and launching a Facebook app, Friendster has now made it very easy for them to 'port' these applications to Friendster...For Web 2.0 companies that have developed apps using Facebook and OpenSocial APIs, they now have the flexibility to choose between approaches when launching applications on Friendster."Friendster. Two of the biggest names in tech are teaming up on a cloud computing project that they plan to announce at a special event next week.
So what, exactly, are they doing together? Well, we already know Dell provides servers for Palo Alto, Calif.-based Facebook, but what other plans the two have hatched together beyond that is unclear. The event is scheduled for next Tuesday, but other than sending out a nicely worded invitation, the only thing the companies are saying about the partnership is that it involves "the next generation of cloud computing."
Facebook is no stranger to the complaints of privacy activists. First, it was the site's News Feed feature back in 2006. Most recently, the company's Beacon service drew widespread criticism. This blog post will outline yet another major privacy issue, in which Facebook recklessly exposes user data.
Facebook launched its widely popular application developer program back in May 2007. As of press time, there were more than 14,000 applications. Some, including most of the popular apps, are made by companies, while a few of the popular apps, and a significant number of the long tail of the less popular applications are made by individual developers.
But a new study suggests there may be a bigger problem with the applications. Many are given access to far more personal data than they need to in order to run, including data on users who never even signed up for the application. Not only does Facebook enable this, but it does little to warn users that it is even happening, and of the risk that a rogue application developer can pose.

Rumor: Facebook to get 3 new features in Q1 2008

Inside Facebook is reporting today that Facebook is set to launch three new features in Q1 of 2008. These features include:
- Friend list privacy controls
- Facebook in new languages
- Blasting messages to groups with more than 1,000 members
Friend list privacy control is a no-brainer. If you separate your friends into work and personal lists, you want to be able to control what each group sees. It's just a logical step for Facebook and a feature that probably should have been implemented before the launch of Friends lists.
Again, translating Facebook into new languages makes a huge amount of sense as well. Facebook is getting bigger and bigger in the international market and one of the things that's stopping them from bumping off more localized social networks is the language barrier. Maybe this will push them over the top.
Finally, we have one of the most requested features on Facebook. Not being able to send messages to groups with more than 1,000 members has been a huge headache for a ton of people trying to spread news throughout their groups. Perhaps that problem will be rectified with this impending update.
While none of these new features are shockers, they are welcome additions and should add some much needed functionality to the site.
It looks as if the popular site Facebook has yet another strike against it.Anyone that reads our blog here knows that I report all negative news from facebook I come across while searching the web.
On Thursday, security vendor Fortinet warned Facebook users that a popular new widget also installed Zango, software that has been labeled by some antivirus vendors as spyware. The Facebook widget, Secret Crush, promises to reveal who has a secret crush on them, and requires the user to add it to their site. Upon doing so, Fortinet says the Zango software also piggybacks in the installation without notification.

Many partners in Facebook's Beacon seem reticent to address the raging privacy controversy surrounding the ad program, resorting to terse, vague statements or opting for outright silence when asked for comment.
The partners seem to be betting that the furor over Beacon's broad ability to track visitors to their sites will die down, and that they don't need to elaborate on their participation in a program many see as intrusive.
As long as facebook continues this practice the furor over beacon will not die down on this blog.I will continue to post articles on the subject as long as the matter continues.

Facebook's CEO and Founder Mark Zuckerberg has profusely apologized for missteps in the design and deployment of the Beacon ad system, but he remains unrepentant about what privacy advocates consider a particularly egregious feature.
Absent from Zuckerberg's mea culpa Wednesday is any indication that Facebook plans to modify the system's ability to indiscriminately track actions of all users on external sites that have implemented Beacon.

Facebook said on Wednesday it will allow members to turn off a controversial feature that monitors the Web sites they visit, and its chief executive apologized for not responding sooner to privacy complaints.
In a note in his blog, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the online social network took too long to react to users' concerns about the "Facebook Beacon" feature, which notifies a user's friends of visits to affiliated Web sites.

The social-networking site confirms that its Beacon ad service is more intrusive and stealthy than previously acknowledged.
Facebook's controversial Beacon ad system tracks users' off-Facebook activities even if those users are logged off from the social-networking site and have previously declined having their activities on specific external sites broadcast to their Facebook friends, a company spokesman said via e-mail over the weekend.
