MediaPost is reporting that bloggers and others that publish news on the web will now be granted press credentials in New York City. This comes as a result of a lawsuit filed in 2008 by three Web journalists who were denied press passes according to the report.

Under the new proposed policy, the New York Police Department would be able to issue press passes good for two years to any journalist who has personally attended and reported on at least six qualified events in the city in the preceding two years, regardless of whether the reports were published online, in print newspapers, magazines, books or other media.

Good to get such official recognition.

I've often used my blog credentials to gain free access to events like exhibitions.

I don't generally say that "I am a blogger", usually I say "I own and operate an industry news website".

This helps to avoid those incorrect preconceptions that some people have about blogs.
