Google has announced that it will be cutting some of its projects in the weeks to come included in the cuts are
the mobile social network Dodgeball which will be discontinued entirely, the messaging site Jaiku,Google video, and notebook which will stop accepting new users.
Details of how these and other services will be affected are on TechCrunch.
I wonder if this is a growing trend with the economy or google just feels it is time for some restructering?

There was a piece of news on the radio the other day that Google had to cut thousands of jobs. I guess they're feel the economic crunch.
Was wondering what they would eventually do with Google Video, with YouTube already there. Times are indeed difficult.
Most of these are long overdue - especially Google video.
It just feels like the recession has forced them to make what were staggeringly obviously sensible cuts anyway.

I can see google video being on the list there is not much need of spending cash there after taking over you tube.
Yes, it seems the economy is affecting every company - let's hope things turn around in the 2nd half of the year as economists have predicted. And I agree there's not much point to Google keeping google video with YouTube.
This time is really difficult for IT industry and Google cutting some project is really big news in Internet market.
I think the state of the economy is making even the most successful companies look at their business and cut back where necessary. It seems as though Google are just trying to cut back on the weaker elements of the company.
I would have to agree Chris that it looks like google is cutting back on the most weaker elements of its structure.
I can't believe they aren't even accepting new users for Google Video or Google Notebook. Notebook is a very useful application that has helped me a lot in the past, and it's unfortunate they are discontinuing it.
Google Video's been pretty much redundant for a while now. Shame about Notebook though.
