The inside adsense blog announced that they will be releasing a new ad management solution to enable code-free ad changes.

As of now, if you want to change your AdSense layout to a different format, color, channel or whatever, after you make that change in the AdSense console, you need to copy and paste new AdSense code into your site. In the future, all you will need to do is make the change in the AdSense console and the changes will be automatically applied to your live ads.
This will be much quicker then the process now.

Sounds like a good idea, with so many other dynamic widgets out there, you would think that they would do it sooner then now.
